The warning was issued to the 13 states which have outlawed most abortions, adding that the law requires them to provide the treatments, if necessary, under those conditions. President Biden reminded hospital in physicians in July that federal law requires healthcare providers to provide life or health-saving medical services to patients experiencing emergency pregnancy complications. The investigation has been launched under the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labour act and was authorized by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Missouri's Department of Health and Senior Services confirmed to that they were investigating Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri. Mylissa Farmer, 41, was 18-weeks pregnant when her water broke, leaving her at risk of life-threatening complications - but the hospital refused to perform an abortion despite her 'baby dying inside her'. The federal government has launched its first investigation into a hospital after a woman was denied an abortion – despite experiencing a medical emergency.
